Environment Counts | Global freshwater indicators :
UN Water provides a single online portal which affords access to up-to-date data and related information on the World’s freshwater resources, sanitation and water related disasters via its Key Water Indicator Portal (KWIP). UN Water is the coordinating mechanism for all UN organizations and agencies charged with measuring, collecting data, monitoring and reporting on freshwater and related issues.
Kwip provides access to what is probably the best water data available at country, regional and global levels. The system is relatively simple to access and use and provides maps, charts and tables for selected water indicators. Links are provided to the reporting agencies and to a federated custodian database containing data from all organizations generating data relevant to the UN-Water indicators.
KWIP is implemented and maintained by the Land and Water Division of UN FAO as part of its Aquastat programme. Aquastat is the FAO’s global water information system, and according to the FAO it is the most widely quoted and used source on global water statistics.
