Environment Counts | Lowest maximum Arctic sea ice extent since satellite recording began :

On February 25, 2015 Arctic sea ice likely reached its maximum extent for the year, at 14.54 million square kilometers. This year’s maximum ice extent was the lowest recorded since 1978 when satellites were first used to measure ice extents. The maximum extent this winter is 1.10 million square kilometers below the median for 1981 to 2010 of 15.64 million square kilometers (shown by orange line).
