NOAA has reported that the globally averaged temperature over land and ocean surfaces for May 2016 is the 13th consecutive month the monthly global temperature record has been broken. This is the longest streak in the NOAA record which dates back to 1880.
The May globally averaged land surface temperature was 2.11Â°F (1.17 Â°C) above the 20th century average of 52.0Â°F (11.1 Â°C). This was the third highest May land global temperature since 1880. The May globally averaged sea surface temperature was 1.37Â°F (0.76 Â°C) above the 20th century monthly average of 61.3Â°F (16.3 Â°C), This is the highest global ocean temperature for May since 1880.
